Boyd Tinsley Arrested for DUI After Traffic Crash in Albemarle County

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CITY NOW) — Former Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley was arrested following a two-vehicle collision in Albemarle County. The incident occurred near the intersection of Seminole Trail (US 29) and Woodbrook Drive around 5:54 p.m. Monday.

The Albemarle County Police Department said there were no injuries following the crash. Tinsley, who was involved in the crash, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. He is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and is due in court July 1. He was released on bail.

Tinsley was a member of the Dave Matthews Band from 1992 to 2018. He left the band amid allegations of sexual assault by a trumpeter in his side project, Crystal Garden. The two parties reached a financial settlement in 2019.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Based on the results of the investigation, responding officers arrested an adult male on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was transported to the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
