Edwardsville IL Police respond to lewd behavior complaint

Edwardsville police responded to a complaint on June 28 of a shirtless man on a bicycle making lewd gestures and comments toward girls and women.

“At approximately 10:48 a.m., we received a complaint of a man riding a bicycle without a shirt and making lewd gestures,” Edwardsville Police Chief Michael Fillback said. “The subject was believed to be on the Nickel Plate bike trail near Township Park. We responded but did not find anyone matching the description and the people officers spoke with on the trail at that time did not reported seeing no one (similar).

“As always, we encourage citizens to contact the police department directly at 618-656-2131 if they see any suspicious behavior on the trails.”

In July 2023, a 23-year-old South Roxana man was charged with exhibitionism and public indecency.

In August 2021, a woman posted on social media that as she was getting ready for her morning run, another woman alerted her that a man was allegedly exposing himself in one of the tunnels near West Franklin Avenue, near the MCT’s Nickel Plate Trail. The second woman said she contacted the Edwardsville Police Department, who sent officers to the area, but just like on June 28, they found no one.
