Man arrested for kidnapping in Mesquite – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A man was arrested for aggravated kidnapping in Mesquite after a child was able to run away and alert the Dallas Fire Department.

The Mesquite Police Department was notified of a “delayed sexual assault involving a minor” on June 6, according to police.

Police said the child initially ran away from the home when a man in a red minivan approached the child in the area of ​​Gross Road and Ridgeview Street to ask if she wanted let us take her home.

The child accepted the ride, but the suspect ignored instructions and headed toward the Dallas city limits.

During this time, the suspect attempted to touch the child inappropriately, leading to a brief struggle and the vehicle stopping on I-20 in Dallas, according to police.

The suspect removed the child from the vehicle and the child fled on foot for a period of time before meeting the Dallas Fire Department at Dallas Fire Station #40. Dallas police were the first to respond and later notified the Mesquite Police Department.

Investigators were able to locate the suspect's minivan using traffic surveillance cameras in the area where the child was abducted. A search of the area described by the child where she fled allowed investigators to locate the suspect's minivan.

The suspect was identified as Doyle Tipton, 53, a registered sex offender.

Tipton was arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping.
