No injuries in commercial building fire in Willmar, Minnesota – West Central Tribune

WILLMAR — A commercial building in northeast Willmar sustained significant damage after a fire Tuesday morning.

According to a news release from Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson, an investigation revealed the cause of the fire was electrical.

According to Hanson, firefighters dispatched to the 1100 block of 11th Avenue Northeast received an additional report while en route of smoke coming from the roof of the storage area. They began an aggressive attack on the interior of the fire, including the roof.

One crew went to the roof to cut access holes in the metal cladding, while another crew entered the building to assess the extent of the fire.

Due to the need for additional manpower, the Spicer and Kandiyohi County Fire Departments were requested to assist.

The fire was reported around 7:52 a.m. Tuesday, and Hanson said firefighters remained on scene until about 10:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The building and some of its contents suffered damage from fire, water and smoke.

The Willmar Fire Department was assisted by the Willmar Police Department, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office, CentraCare Emergency Medical Services and the Kandiyohi and Spicer Fire Departments.
