One dead in Oklahoma City motel shooting

Oklahoma City police are investigating a homicide following a shooting at a motel near Interstate 35 Service Road near Southeast Grand Boulevard.

Police attended the Executive Inn on Wednesday evening.

“Officers received a call that there was gunfire in the area, the victim was located at the scene,” said Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Dillon Quirk.

The victim was found in a motel room and rushed to hospital. Despite emergency efforts, police said the victim did not survive.

“Unfortunately, we learned recently that the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” Quirk said.

Police said the suspect(s) fled the scene in a vehicle.

“At this point in time, we have no one in custody, no one has been arrested at this point,” Quirk said.

Police have not determined the motive.

“It's too early to determine what led to the shooting,” Quirk said.

Police and homicide officers secured a hotel room on the second floor. Police said that despite the fact that several rooms were occupied and the motel was located near a busy highway, no one else was injured.

“A victim was hit by gunfire,” Quirk said.

Police said interviews with potential witnesses and gathering evidence are expected to take several hours.

“We're going to be on scene at some point, analyzing the scene and trying to figure out what happened. What led to the shooting, what led to the victim being shot,” Quirk said.

Police said they were working to determine a description of the vehicle involved.
