One killed, another injured in crash on I-10 near Gause Boulevard

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — One person has died and another was hospitalized with serious injuries following a two-car crash on Interstate 10 near Gause Boulevard in the early hours of Friday, June 21.

According to Louisiana State Police, officers began investigating a two-car crash shortly before 1 a.m.

The crash reportedly killed Brittany Rawson, 36, of Elberta, Alabama, and seriously injured Andre Fontana, 42, who was driving the vehicle, a 2014 BMW a Freightliner trailer.

Police say Rawson was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred and she was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. Fontana was also not wearing a seat belt and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Toxicology samples were collected from Fontana and the driver of the Freightliner for analysis during the ongoing investigation.

State Police have emphasized the need to wear your seat belt while driving to “significantly reduce your chances of being injured or killed in a crash.” And that “wearing your seat belt correctly is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries in the event of an accident. »
