A San Jose pilot has been identified as one of two people who died in a plane crash in Alpine County.

According to the Alpine County Sheriff's Office, Raphael Jones Jr., 74, of San Jose, was piloting a small plane Wednesday before it crashed near Luther Pass, about 10 miles south of South Lake Tahoe.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, authorities responded to a report of an overdue plane and went to the scene, according to KCRA, which initially reported the story.

When deputies arrived, they pronounced Jones and Jeannette Shriver Singer, 80, of Lodi, dead at the scene.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Luscombe 8A departed the Lodi Airport Wednesday afternoon.
