Firefighters extinguished a small grass fire in northern San Rafael on Thursday.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. near Dockside Circle and Smith Ranch Road. Six engines from San Rafael and Marinwood responded.

San Rafael Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sinnott said firefighters were able to contain the fire to less than an acre. It was mastered in 20 minutes. He attributed the help to the teams to the absence of strong winds.

No injuries or structural damage were reported.

Investigators found the remains of “burned pyrotechnic devices” at the scene and said they were likely the cause of the fire, Sinnott said. Fireworks are illegal in Marin County.
