The parking lot at Columbia's Golden Corral was busy all day Thursday when the restaurant finally reopened after being closed for a year and a half due to a fire.

Columbia firefighters say the 2022 New Year's Eve fire caused $250,000 in damage, including significant roof damage. There were no injuries. Construction crews essentially rebuilt the entire restaurant and have a newly renovated dining room.

Golden Corral is popular for its food, including its breakfast offerings. It is also a very popular place for family Thanksgiving lunch. The restaurant held a three-day recruiting event in May and continues to hire employees.
