Villager pleads over alleged attack on 91-year-old resident

A villager has pleaded guilty to an alleged attack on another 91-year-old resident.

William Gordon Rodseth, 74, of the Village of Dunedin, pleaded not guilty to a charge of battery in Sumter County Court.

The Rock Island, Ill., native turned himself in to the Sumter County Detention Center Monday morning.

His arrest followed an incident on May 9 on a golf cart path in The Villages.

Rodseth was driving a blue, two-seater golf cart when he encountered the 91-year-old Villager, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. The 91-year-old villager called Rodseth an “asshole”.

This appears to have angered Rodseth who followed the 91-year-old to his home in the village of Sabal Chase, less than a mile from where they were traveling.

Rodseth pulled into the man's driveway and pushed the older man on the shoulder. An altercation ensued and the 91-year-old man found himself on the ground. Rodseth got back in his golf cart and drove away.

Several weeks passed without the identity of the attacker being known.

The 91-year-old had surveillance cameras outside his home and an image helped identify the alleged attacker.

Rodseth has no criminal history.
