Early Wednesday, Davenport police received a report of an infant left on the sidewalk at Genesis East Medical Center, 1227 E. Rusholme St.

Police say Kirk was admitted to the hospital in connection with another call for service to Davenport police, affidavits show. While at the Genesis East emergency room, she had a 15-week-old child in a car seat with her.

Kirk left the medical center and was seen leaving at 12:34 a.m. with the baby in a carrier, according to the affidavits. She walked to the corner of the parking lot near Bridge Avenue where she set the carrier down and covered it with a blanket. She then looked around and began to run away from the area where the carrier was placed.

Around 12:46 a.m., Genesis Security and off-duty police officers found the baby carrier, according to affidavits, which state that “the baby was left alone for approximately 12 minutes, near a busy street with vehicles and pedestrians, in the elements.”

The baby is about 15 weeks old and weighs just nine pounds, according to police statements.

Kirk, who was arrested on a warrant, was being held Wednesday at the Scott County Jail.
